Political System And Its Influence In Selection Procedure

By Frank Johnson

The policies of government should be to increase more job opportunities, increased production and growth and improve infrastructure. If they can stick to these basics, more people will get attracted to their way of functioning. In the recently concluded NJ assembly election, the ruling party got the majority as they were successful in generating more employment opportunities and greater economic activities in their economy.

Election is the process of selecting few persons representing the voters and act on behalf of the people voted. It is a long process which has undergone numerous changes and evolved in present day election. We can see many democratic countries elect their president through the process of elections by popular mandate.

They influence the voting process by broadcasting their aspirations. Thus a panel do not get selected as easily which had happened long before. They would not get a chance to represent the people if they lack proven track record or their working style is not good. If they do not perform well, they will be thrown out of power in the next elections.

They might govern by a single party parliament. The system would not allow another party to work there. So there will not be any election for the top post of the government. They are selected by the party votes only. It has to be maintained in standard manner.

The period of representation varies country to country, region to region or size of the responsibility. For example, when the selection is for a small area of the body and the number of voters is very less or the responsibility is comparatively low, period may be low and the periods may be less from six months to two years.

The selection is usually for three layers of governance. First layer or the primary layer is for local governance. Second level is for selecting representatives for state level or province level. The final stage is for the national level where in countries presidents are selected. Though every country uses their own guidelines for selection, the core is people will get a say in deciding who is to rule them and lead them to progress.

Conducting a free and fair choice is a hilarious task and there will be a appointed constitutional body which conducts the choices. These commissions or bodies will have absolute powers to control and conduct the appointments thus making it free and fair.

There are also some countries who do not encourage people participation. They might follow monarchical rule or follow one party system. In monarchical system, the governing body or president is elected from the head of the ruling family. The rule never goes beyond this family. Some countries follow the single party system wherein the system does not allow a second party to function and the election is held within the party. Though it is undemocratic and do not represent the peoples selection, decision making and stability in policies are the good takes of this system. They also do not incur heavy costs of conducting the election.

There are also other pressure groups which are non religion. In some countries, youth organizations exerts heavy pressure on the government policies. Even official authorities do not interrupt them as its very risky to poke young people in larger crowds.
